Ten to 15 people were taken to Syracuse hospitals Tuesday night after "pandemonium" engulfed the mosh pit at the state fair grandstand, according to the head of the infirmary at the fair.
Two were hospitalized for broken arms and a third for a broken leg, said David Corey, training supervisor for Rural/Metro Ambulance.
Between 30 and 40 others in their teens and early 20s were treated for scrapes, bruises and other pit-related injuries by 10 p.m., he said. None of the injuries was considered serious.

"They were crowd surfing, and this big guy kicked me in the head," said Stephennie Nichols, 13, of Mannsville, Jefferson County. Crowd surfing refers to passing someone overhead from person to person.
When asked what the scene was like at the Projekt Revolution concert, the girl said, "Very scary."
Nichols said she was carried out of the pit about 7 p.m. by a security guard. In her infirmary bed about three hours later, she read a Projekt Revolution CD cover while the bands blared outside.
Corey said it was the worst night of concert-related injuries he'd seen in a decade at the fair.
"Traditionally, we have a few people to see, but this is unusual," he said. "It was pandemonium; lots of loud music and bodies slamming around."
Tuesday's grandstand show was all-day, two-stage affair headlined by Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance and Taking Back Sunday. Most of the injuries came in between about 8 and 9:30 p.m., Corey said.
Corey said the show had the largest mosh pit he knew of at the fair. The infirmary had extra staff as a precaution, he said. All of the pit-related injuries stemmed from physical injuries, not the heat.
"It was pretty taxing at its peak," he said.
